Union Presents Disney’s Freaky Friday

By Makayla Federline, 12

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional revamp of an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that comes with the bond between mother and daughter.

Union Fine Arts’ presents the all school musical Disney’s Freaky Friday in the Union Performing Arts Center.

Beginning in October of 2021, around 130 Union students, ranging from Pre-K to 12th grade, began the rehearsals for the show. Students have stayed after school from 3:30-6:30, Monday through Thursday to learn dance numbers, rehearse songs, and block each scene. As COVID-19 spread throughout the past two years, it had caused many changes and tested the theater program here at Union, but the Fine Arts department remains resilient and continues to push out beautiful and dynamic shows.

Tickets will be sold online this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. To buy tickets go to https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/59931 and pick your showtime.
