Chocolate Sponge Cake Recipe From U-Bake!

Excited for Winter Break? There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays than to cook some good food! Here’s a fun recipe to try out at home this winter: Chocolate Sponge Cake. Sounds delicious? Let’s get to the recipe!

Ingredients needed:

  • 5 Eggs
  • 2/3 cups of cake flour
  • 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • A pinch of salt (1/8 teaspoon)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar

Directions:

Step 1: Begin by cracking all 5 eggs and separating the whites from the yolks. Refrigerate the whites (We will use them later!). Preheat the oven.

Step 2: In a small pot, heat the cooking oil over low heat. Turn off the heat after 1 minute.

Step 3: In a separate bowl, mix the cake flour and cocoa powder. Afterwards, sift the mixture into the pot, mixing well.

Step 4: Add the 5 egg yolks and a pinch of salt to the pot. Mix well.

Step 5: Add 1/4 cup of the milk to the pot and mix. After mixing thoroughly, add the rest of the milk and stir.

Step 6: Pour your egg whites into a separate bowl. Next, whisk it with a cake mixer or electric whisk while slowly adding sugar. Stop once the whisked egg whites look like whipped cream (This is the secret to the cake’s sponginess!).

Step 7: Add some of the whipped egg whites to the cake mixture in the pot. After mixing thoroughly, transfer the cake mixture to the rest of the whipped egg whites, mixing from the bottom to the top.

Step 8: Transfer the mixture to a baking pan (we recommend a 7×7 inch pan). Bake for 60 minutes at 300 °F.
